Can't believe I screwed up the metroplex term. I was thinking about the DC to Boston megalopolis. On a side note, MLS is surely about to pass MLB and probably NHL in popularity. Probably about time we start referring to the 5 major sports leagues, of which both these metro areas also have

It might pass NHL, but it still has a long way to go, if you want to judge it by revenue which is a pretty good indicator of popularity. In 2023 MLB made 11.6 billion, NHL 6.2 billion and MLS 2.0 billion. Just to complete the picture NFL made 18.6 billion, NBA 10.6 and EPL generates about 8 billion pounds. The big 4 are the the best 4 leagues for their sport in the world and you get a lot of international eyeballs. MLS is maybe the 6 or 7th best league in the world so no one outside of the US and Canada gives a crap.

MLS is going to pass MLB? Surely, there must be a misunderstanding.

MLS saw about 12,000,000 fans in attendance last year. Now, that's a lot of people, but MLB is literally the most attended sports league in the world, by a factor of about three.

I know, I was surprised too, but baseball seasons sure are long. Over 71,000,000 people attended a major league game in 2024. In fact, AAA baseball outsold MLS, too. And as far as revenue is concerned, it's a difference of a little over 5-1 between the leagues.

Boston is playing a great first game. Would be insane if they 4-0 Dallas like they did to Indiana. Celtics are a great team but I kind of want Mavs to win because Luka has not won any championships and he definitely deserves one. Celtics have won 17 already so...

What's so notable about Plano that the vast majority of people would get that question right?

Maybe because it sounds Spanish (which it is) and just does not sound like the type of name that a Boston suburb would have, many of which are named after or based on English town and city names. So Dallas would be much more plausible as an answer than Boston.

At the time I am commenting the finals of the NBA 2024 is Dallas Mavericks vs Boston Celtics and the score is 1-0 with Celtics winning so both city’s are great but I got them all right because I live in Dallas but used to live in Boston.

I would argue that neither city has teams in all four major leagues. The New England Patriots are not in Boston and the Texas Rangers are not in Dallas. Technically.
