While the average height of a professional basketball player is significantly above that of the average person, they almost never exceed 7½ feet, and the vast majority are under 7 feet. The tiny handful of people with recorded heights above 8 feet have all had significant bone, joint, and heart issues, which would effectively prevent them from being able to play professional basketball regardless of their height. Not to mention, many were born in a time or a place in which playing professional basketball wasn't a possibility regardless.
