This is great. The only thing is that incorporation is really weird by state, especially in the northeast. For example, a couple of Vermont towns are in this list, but the large Long Island towns (Oyster Bay, Brookhaven, etc.) aren't here even though their population is way higher than the cities. Same with some Maryland places (Columbia especially). Not a criticism, since the locations are technically correct, but just an observation.

In New England and New Jersey there is no difference at all between a municipality that is a town or city, zero, but the Census Bureau has an archaic mindset that using the 4 letters that make "city" is magically different than using the 4 letters that make "town".

No difference in terms of incorporation, yes. (Though Vermont, Maine, and maybe New Hampshire do have unincorporated towns/plantations.) Part of why this sticks out to me is that I grew up in Massachusetts, where towns are incorporated and villages are not, and then lived for a while in New York, where villages are incorporated and towns are not.

They do have unorganized "minor civil divisions" that go by townships, plantations, gores, territories, purchases, etc. All towns are full municipalities.

In Connecticut, municipalities are towns on paper even if a city. For example, the town of Hartford and city of Hartford are coextensive.
