Caroline is the feminine version of Charles. It comes from the Latin - Carolus.

Even less obvious is Virginia = Elizabeth! ;-)

Unless you know the epithet that is usually applied to her, you chances of making the connection are pretty low!

What are Krispy kreme doughnuts?

Fluffy and airy on the inside, crispy on the outside, but not as good when they're cold so get them when the red light's on. When we still ate doughnuts, Krispy Kreme's were my favorite and I always looked for them when traveling, but hubby preferred a more "substantial" - heavier - doughnut that was made locally at a family-owned bakery.

Actually, Mt. MItchell is in the Black Mountains, not the Blue Ridge.

The Black Mountains are a subrange of the Blue Ridge.

Chailatte is right, although I think switching the clue to Black Mountains would make it a bit more challenging. I'd be curious to see how much of a drop we'd see in the percentage of people who got it right...

Quite a bit since the Black Mountain Crest is only about 15 miles in length, and a tiny part of the Blue Ridge. That said, 6 of the 10 highest peaks in eastern American on this short ridge. Great hike, too... Black Mountain Crest from Bolens Creek to the top of Mitchell... 11.5 miles, 5,147' of ascent.

I would question the wording on the largest city in western NC. I know it depends on how you split it, but if you just split the state into two halves, Charlotte is definitely in the western half of the state (probably even the western third). It might be better to word it largest city in the mountains of NC, which would definitely be Asheville.

I don't think anyone would consider Charlotte as being located in western North Carolina

I grew up in Charlotte, and when discuss legislature and politics, the state often divides itself on East-West lines, with Charlotte being in the west. Since it was already used in an answer, I thought this question was referring to the mountainous regions.

Yeah, for those from the state, or who have applied to the universities, this question is misleading. I believe there are 17 schools in the NC university system, seven of which go by UNC: Asheville, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, Greensboro, Pembroke, Arts, and Wilmington.

Chapel Hill is the biggest, most prestigious and well known, but it is not the only UNC school

Krispy Kreme was first started in Tennessee; the owner moved to Winston-Salem, NC, to be closer to his favorite cigarette brand (seriously).
