Palestine is not a country. The country in which Hamas principally operates is Israel, though I suppose they also dabble in Egypt.

DB692 - Hamas operates on Israeli land and Hamas believes that land to be their own. As for Palestine being an independent country akin to Vatican City...that's interesting since the Vatican has a single government and borders. Do you consider Hamas to be the governing party and, if so, isn't their agenda to expand their borders at the expense of their neighbors?

Numerous countries (that are UN members) have competing governments: Libya, Syria, Iraq, Somalia, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, to name a few. Most due to internal conflicts or occupation.

Hamas doesn't operate on Israeli land, it operates in Gaza. Not even Israel openly claims Gaza is Israeli land. And yes, Hamas is the governing party, it won fair elections and so it governs by mandate of the Palestinian people. You don't have to like them, but you do have to recognise their right to govern, just as Palestinians have to recognise Likud's right to govern Israel.

I used to watch a typical LA Law look-alike programme called Street Legal. I first became aware it was not in fact American but made and set in Canada, when one of the leading characters referred disparaginly to "the Tories". (They could afford to be partisan because I think the Conservatives were down to three seats in Parliament then.)
