They should except CIT for Cal Tech. Just like MIT.

That's a very uncommon way of referring to it though. Locals, students, and visiting academics all refer to it as Cal Tech

A bit harsh not to accept “Brigham Young”.

You might modify the clue for most college football championships to clarify that only major FBS schools are counted. In fact, the answer to the second question is the correct answer to this one also (18 versus 17) if all championships since 1869 are counted.

Yup, just ignore it and keep the incorrect answer.

Maybe accept 'Cal' for the Berkeley answer since the name of the college in short is actually Cal and not Berkeley.

Agreed. I would never think of Cal Berkeley as having B as its first initial

Agreed on both these points. California-Berkeley, or Cal-Berkeley, or California, or just Cal. "Berkeley" is also used colloquially, but giving it a B makes it an outlier on this list.

At that point the first initial should just be U

'Animal House' is set at Faber College, an amalgam of three different places.

Really shocked that Oberlin, a tiny liberal arts school not known for really for anything other than being the first college to admit women that is still in existence is not that far behind Duke and University of Chicago. I get that the Duke question is fairly obscure but there aren't a whole lot of well known schools beginning with a D. They don't pop into the national consciousness from major college sports nor ground breaking research. Never had a major piece of popular culture associated with it or historic event. Sorry if if think I am dogging the college but it's remarkable that so many people got it in comparison to other better known schools.

I don't know how influential this is but it's a convenient crossword answer and shows up probably disproportionately; and usually clued with that fact about it.

It's because it starts with O. That helps narrow it down a lot, i mean how many colleges can you name that start with O?

It also has a highly regarded music conservatory (oldest in the country), so there's more than one string to its bow.

Yes, this--the liberal arts college is well regarded but the conservatory is one of the best in the country.

I seriously hate when Jetpunkers do this moaning about not knowing an answer. Didn't know it? That's alright, you've learned something and move on.

Read "Animal House" as "Animal Farm" and was very confused...
