This is actually pretty easy if you know the place of certain states. Westernmost states here are the answer.

Yeah, this one was actually easier than I expected. I only had one wrong guess when I typed Arizona before Wyoming.

And, indeed, it is very hard if you don't know where states are, or where Tokyo is, or anything about geography really.

Not just westernmost. North-westernmost. The intercontinental airline flights normally spend some time north of the polar circle. The most direct route is the "northern route".

the reason arizona wasnt included is because tokyo is a bit farther north than mainland US, so from that angle, arizona wouldnt be that close.
