UPDATE 26/10/2025: Finally did a complete revamp on the map. Included a few countries and territories I had missed during my initial research and drew areas the US military had occupied in grey (Mexican-American War, Russian Civil War and WWII (I also included the VERY dubious claim that the US controlled the Wrangel Island)). There most definitely still are some things I should've included or some very debatable choices on my end on what counts as being "controlled". The unfortunate thing with these quizzes is that you can never be satisfied with what truly is every single territory that has been controlled by a country/nation. That is why the current map is good enough for me.

Thanks again to Dekkie for helping and fact-checking the map. Thanks to everyone who has played this quiz as well, even though this is definitely not my proudest work.

Yeah, Honduras is there now. I wouldn't consider the rest as being really "controlled" by the US per se.

Can you explain why Iraq is here but not Afghanistan? Based on my understanding, both countries were under US occupation at some point. Is there some sort of finer detail that means Iraq counts but Afghanistan doesn't?

What is the reasoning for why some areas are half shaded? I’m sure there is an obviously apparent reason, I for some reason just can’t see it.

Not even sure anymore why I chose those specific territories. I did highlight the whole of Oregon Country due to its status being disputed territory between the US and UK for a while. Iraq and parts of Mexico probably because they were more temporary military occupations than anything. I should revise the map at some point.

If you *are* going to revise the map, I'd like to ask if you'd have a look at the American concession in Borneo. Not sure if it counts for this quiz but it's an interesting historical tidbit nonetheless.

I might be wrong, but I think Derna was officially occupied by the US during the First Berber War. There is very little information on this on the web, though, so you might want to check it out yourself.
