Cities in Michael Palin's "Pole to Pole"

Name the cities and towns Michael Palin visited during his 1992 travel show "Pole to Pole".
The means of transport between each city is given as a hint.
I'm only including places that Michael had a good look around, or that were key checkpoints in the journey.
The flags reflect those in use in 1991 (just before the USSR's August Coup).

Couldn’t agree more, I’ve been watching all his travel shows for the first time and they are such gems. It’s crazy to see how much the world has changed in 30 years as well.
