An original peripteral temple was built at the site in the 8th century BC, but was destroyed by floods in the 7th century BC. The marble temple which was to become one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world, was dedicated to the goddess Artemis, who was originally the matron goddess of the Amazons.

8. The Masjid Al-Haram(The Great Mosque of Mecca):
Believed to have begun shortly after Muhammad conquered Mecca in 630 and destroyed the traditional idols surrounding the Kaaba, ending it's polytheistic use. Renovations and expansions of the site have continued through history.

Carved into a 1 kilometre stretch of the Luo River, the grottoes contain over 100,000 statues of Buddha ranging from 1 inch to 17 metres in height. They were begun by the Northern Wei dynasty in 493 and continued by successive dynasties until 1127.
