These numbers will probably be quite smaller as the US moves from coal to alternative fuel sources.

Interestingly, the numbers have gone up for most of these states. Ohio dropped out of the top ten

Alabama is going to have to rewrite their song. "Hello Wy-o-ming coal miner, let me thank you for your time..."

These won't change. Coal is no longer economically viable compared to other fuel sources, both renewable and non-renewable. No amount of wishing by some politicians can change these economics. Coal country needs meaningful economic transitions instead.

Yeah, and no amount of wishing will give them meaningful economic transitions in any short to middle term time frame either.

Very glad to see the numbers going down, but I hope that all future leadership (on the federal and state levels) invest heavily in clean energy to offset coal completely. Coal mining is incredibly unsafe for the miners themselves, and coal as a fuel is terrible, both the environment and as an effective fuel source. It's much worse than nuclear, hydro or even solar power.

Man, what a random group. Four big northwest states (Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, North Dakota), five heartland states (Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania), and... Alabama. I wonder what caused this grouping, and why Ohio and Utah aren't up there.

Finished with 4 seconds to spare (Alabama?? lol) as a Brit.

I was almost certain Ohio would be near the top of this list. No idea why I was so wrong?
