This quiz should have been named "The longest normal names of countries" instead of "The longest OFFICIAL names of countries" then. This quiz maker is absolutely ridiculous and just tells all critics to "go pound sand" when the quiz is quite contradicting. What a joke.

Conversational contractions and actual names of countries are very different things. All sorts of shortened words and phrases exist in conversations because it's quicker and easier. I'm from Australian and nobody round here says Papua New Guinea in conversation it's always PNG. That doesn't mean the name of the country has changed, it's just a conversational language choice to say it faster. For the record, when I flew to Hawaii last year I told friends/family that I was going to the USA, because it is the actual name of the country and it's faster to say (three syllables) than either United States (four) or United States of America.(nine).

No one would say "I will fly to the United Arab Emirates" or to "the Federated States of Micronesia" either. It would always be to "the emirates" or "to Micronesia". The test is inconsistent as it stands.

If you make an analogy, at least get it right. "of America" is an adjective corresponding to the "Arab" in the UAE, not "Emirates," which corresponds to "States." So you could call the UAE the "United Emirates" or even just the "Emirates" because people do call it that!

What on earth is an "accepted official long name"? Accepted by whom? Yourself?

Type-ins have absolutely nothing to do with what the standard name on the site is. Almost no countries have their own (*English) official long name used in this quiz, so it certainly doesn't make sense to call not using that "inconsistent".

But probably the most important point is, does it really bother you people that much to type usa, have it not work, and then type uae? It's like two seconds of typing for a very obvious answer considering you're already thinking of "united".
