All 3,142 County Seats of the United States on a Map
Try to name as many county seats of the counties in the United States as you can!
Caution: the map is large in size, and with 3k+ answers, the page WILL BE SLOW
This includes DC and the independent city-counties of Virginia, but not overseas territories like Puerto Rico
For the unorganized counties and equivalents in Alaska, Hawaii, and South Dakota, the name of any community in the county, or the name of the county itself, is acceptable.
The counties constituting the boroughs of New York City do not have seats. Therefore, the answer will be the name of the borough itself.
Gulfport and Biloxi are separate cities, to my knowledge, but typing either one doesn't give you the county. Seems to want "Gulfport Biloxi" only, which isn't a place. Please let us type either or.
Great quiz! Though, I found an issue. The county seat of Washita county, Oklahoma is *slightly* incorrect. The county seat of Washita county is New Cordell. This says Cordell
Finally finished and got 100%. Had to use the extended time though since 60 minutes is not enough. Uploaded the video on my YouTube channel: The County Guy.
The worst part about quizzes like this is that I can never remember what I've already guessed and what I haven't. Finished with 1,293 after getting WaKeeney, Rutherfordton, and Gering but I missed St. Louis and Tallahassee.
I'm glad this quiz exists, but there are still a few issues that I think should be addressed. For one, a few of the Georgia county seats have been misplaced, namely:
Buena Vista - placed in McIntosh county, actually the seat of Marion county.
Danielsville - placed in McDuffie, actually the seat of Madison
Darien - placed in Madison, actually the seat of McIntosh
Oglethorpe - placed in Marion, actually the seat of Macon
Thomson - placed in Macon, actually the seat of McDuffie.
Also there are a few naming things I'd like to see addressed. For instance, all towns with "Mount" in the name take only the full word instead of the abbrevation "Mt" (for instance, the quiz only takes "Mount Vernon" instead of "Mt Vernon"). The sole exception is Michigan, where for some reason it only takes the abbreviated form. The quiz should accept both forms of these names for all states.
Also, this might be a bit pedantic, but East Naples (the county seat listed for Collier County, FL) is not a town. It's an unincorporated area east of Naples. The quiz should accept both "Naples" and "East Naples," since, again, East Naples isn't really a town or census-designated place. North Haverhill, NH, also isn't a town (it's an unincorporated village within the town of Haverhill), and I think Haverhill should also be accepted for Grafton County, NH. The same principle applies to Rockville, CT (unincorporated area within Vernon) and Willimantic, CT (unincorporated area within Windham).
But New York City borough and Kalawao haven't county seats
But I probably won't.
why is there one less county seat than county
