Interesting you put JFK's full name, maybe to make it more confusing?

The jelly donut question is a tricky one, because while this type of food is known as a "Berliner" in most of Germany, it's called a "Krapfen" in Bavaria", a "Kräppel" in Hesse and... a "Pfannkuchen" in Berlin! So, to people from Berlin, hearing JFK wouldn't have been confusing at all, unless he had said "ich bin ein Pfannkuchen".

Because this comes up every time the JFK quote is mentioned: No, people did not think he said that he was a jelly donut. The sentence was absolutely correct in every way and his pronunciation was perfectly fine. While in theory, this sentence can have both meanings, from context it was absolutely clear to everyone what he meant, as also evident from the cheering crowd and the fact that Kennedy remains one of the most popular American presidents in Germany to this day.

Precisely. The comparison I like to make is if a German politician came over to NYC and said "I am a New Yorker," no one would think they were saying they were a copy of a magazine.

15% thought that Deliverance was set in Berlin? I could see it being Russian, but from what I can remember of that film, none of the characters would fit well in Berlin pre or post the Wall.

Reichstag is the name of the building (the seat of parliament), Bundestag is the name of the actual parliament (the representatives). It's very similar to the Capitol (building) vs. Congress (parliament) in the US. The Reichstag building was built during the German Empire, and at that time, both the building and the parliament where called Reichstag.
