Due to a relative lack of common license drawings, I had to use several animals which are extinct subspecies or subpopulations of living animals. The Atlas Brown Bear was a subspecies of brown bear. The Barbary Lion was a subpopulation of lions in the same subspecies as lions living elsewhere in West Africa and India. The North African Elephant is either an independent third species of African elephant or the same species as the African savanna elephant, it is not clear in that regard. The Quagga was a weird color morph of plains zebras, though the unique coat would be enough for me to include it even if I could get more unique species here.

A lack of paleoart prevented me from including several interesting animals, including a sister species to the irish elk in North Africa, wild horses, an extinct monkey species and possibly a sister species to the White Rhino in North Africa.
