Italian is definitely not the most spoken language in Geneva, it is French by far

#9 probably ought to read John Calvin. I know Jean is his French name, but this is an English-language quiz…

I was going to complain about the fact that English is stupid to translate names and that we say John Adams and not Jean Adams in French. Then I rememberd what French is doing to city names.

Erm, what about people like Leonard da Vinci, known as Léonard da Vinci in French? Or Michaelangelo (Michel-Ange in French)? The French translate names as much as any other European language.

@baptistegorce tu sais, jusqu'au XXe siècle on faisait pareil partout, on dit Marie Stuart, l'empereur Guillaume II ou François-Ferdinand, etc etc. On prononce Martin Luther en bon français également.

That's the first time I've ever read "Lake Leman" in English—I didn't know that was a possibility. It's always Lac Léman (never Lac de Genève) in French. Now... everybody learn some patouè and sing along! "Cé qu'è lainô le maître dé bataille..."

Well... You are wrong. Its most common name in French in the canton of Geneva is actually "lac de Genève". But yeah, Lake Leman is quite uncommon in English.
