To ask is "preguntar". "Pedir" is "to ask FOR". Also, the correct translation for "to exercise" would be "ejercitarse". You have to learn a little bit more Spanish.

to exercise can also be ejercer, as in ejercer el drecho al voto and el medico ya no ejerce

It didn't accept "recomendar" for "to recommend".
