Cool idea. A lot of the words I thought were compound are apparently separate words!

Thanks. It's the downfall of the quiz, really. I tried to pick words where the most obvious choice was an actual compound word.

Takeout?

Also... Hammertime? :)

Yes, I accidentally omitted takeout. Sadly, the scrabble people seem to have no love for the most talented MC from 90.

I'd rather have forcemeat than a force field.

Fun quiz, thanks. This quiz highlights the shortcomings of the Scrabble dictionary. That book has many "acceptable" words that I have never heard spoken, and only very rarely seen in print--and I am somewhat of an antiquarian. Meanwhile, there are thousands of words that are often spoken and written today, but which the Scrabble dictionary omits. One of these is "thornbird," which is born by at least ten species of South American birds. A day does not go by on which at least several bird-watchers use this word. I myself probably said it, heard it spoken, wrote it, and read it at least fifty times, a couple of months ago on a bird-watching trip.

Huh. I’ve never heard of a thornbird before, but it does pop up on Google.
