Most likely cities to be targeted by a nuke - Warsaw Pact, 1959

Thanks to declassified american archives published on the 22nd of december 2022, we now know what the primary targets of american nuclear bombs might have been, had the cold went nuclear at the end of the 1950ies. These archives are partly obsolete today, mainly because the superpowers don't have the same amount of nuclear weapons anymore, but also because it is believed the american army decided to take back Moscow from the top of the list, in order to keep a dialogue between the Kremlin and Washington possible (in order to attempt a last-chance de-esclation, to avoid total annihilation). Other websites mention the possibility of a single nuclear detonation as a last warning, which may have hit Boston (for the United States) or Kiev (for the Soviet Union). Others mention the Orsha airbase in Belarus as the number 1 target of the americans (the aforementioned archive sets it at priority level 287, with 7 to 9 bombs dropped on the target in case of launch). Finally, the possibility of dropping mainly H bombs on the soviet territory and mainly A bombs on the territory of the satellite states is also mentioned on some articles on the topic. Potential targets of the Soviet Union or of other nuclear powers have never been declassified to this day.
