Coffee is a cash crop generally grown in developing countries for export. It's cheaper for countries like the US to buy foreign coffee than grow their own, plus what Sulps said about needing certain climates.

I got everything except for New Guinea. China and USA are vast countries and not bad guesses but just don't have many areas in the correct latitude for coffee production.

One of the very few quizzes of this sort that China isn't on. Usually even if it's a product you wouldn't usually associate with China, by sheer size China makes it onto the list.

I just crunched the numbers, and as of 2023, Vietnam produces 44% as much coffee as Brazil, but only 11% of the arable land. They must really like their coffee

I went to Laos. I couldn't get a cup of coffee for love nor money. They must export it all! Vietnam, on the other hand, was a coffee drinker's paradise
