nice, interesting! no Bosnia? does it get 'covered' by islands?

If not islands, the Croatian peninsula of Peljesac looks like it blocks it off pretty thoroughly.

There is the French island of Corsica in between Rome and Monaco
+11
Level 67

nope, there exists a strait line between rome and monaco-ville without crossing corsica

I have the feeling that the line either cuts Corsica or Elba (and for this, a flat line on a Mercator map is the route to follow).
+9
Level 89
Apr 6, 2018
Ok, I get it, the line does cut Elba, but it is in Italy, and thus doesn't count.

On google maps there is, but on google earth there isn't.

And google earth is far more reliable for this.

Also, how does the Spanish territory of Melilla count?
+4
Level 60
Dec 13, 2017
I think it should count. It would break up Morocco. Morocco - Spain - Morocco - Spain

Gibraltar UK?

The straight line between Rome and Gibraltar would cross through Spanish territory.

Unless there's a rule i'm not aware of, you should probably explain that 0° is vertical and the angle rises clockwise. Normally in maths (at least where I learned it) 0° is horizontal to the right and angle rises counter-clockwise.

Level 69
Apr 6, 2018
In any geographical context, 0 is directly North. 90 is straight east, 225 is SW, etc.
+1
Level 72
Apr 6, 2018
You are both correct. In maths that is usually the case but here it isn't vertical; it is north, south, east and west. In geography this is standard but I think maybe you should include 3 digits if it is a bearing, i.e. 000° to 007°.

Does it actually go through Slovenia? Looks like it is blocked by the Istrian peninsula
+2

Look further north and if you exclude Italy then all that area between the Istrian peninsula and Austria counts as Slovenia.

Libya is listed twice in the answer list. What about Vatican City?
+1
Level 54
Jul 10, 2022
1. Libya and others are listed twice because you can get to them in multiple directions from Rome.

2. Read the caveat. Vatican City and Italy do not count.

Level 76
Jul 9, 2019
Could be me but this could use a (better) description. Like do you go by car or can you also go by sea. (the words reach and left indicate traveling). So as the as the crow flies or not... and are traveltimes actually taken in consideration etc. These were questions that went through my mind when reading it.

Plus was not sure what the bearings meant.

I got all just by answering the countries close to italy, and now things are a bit clearer. But beforehand I wasnt 100% sure of what exactly the intention was.

Maybe not use reach and left/leave (cause apparently you are not trying to get to these countries). But something like if you would send/shoot a (far reaching) laserbeam in each direction which countries would you hit.

Or if you would peer through a (strong enough) telescope, which countries would you see, if you looked in a 360 degree around you
