Why does the hyphen matter?
+11
Level 63
Oct 14, 2021
Because that makes Guinea not a word in Guinea-Bissau, since Guinea-Bissau is considered a one-word country and not containing the word 'Guinea'.

Guinea-Bissau obviously still contains the word Guinea, as does GuineaBissau.

Yes but it is not an individual word. Guinea-Bissau is one work whereas New Guinea is two words. I still don't understand why it's not 3 words though.

Ok! I missunderstood the clues given. It says Main Continent (number), but the number is the total of countries that have that word, not only in the 'main continent'. Bit confusing I think.

The number in brackets refers to how many are in the continent where the word is most prevalent, while the one in the first column is the world total.

For those of you who haven't heard of this country, we are not fully recognised yet but claim the Hawaiian Islands; all of Saudi Arabia, Oman, Yemen, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan; Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea and Papua New Guinea (particularly the areas of these supposed countries with most Catholics); China (including Taiwan) and both the Democratic Republic and Republic of the Congo; Ireland and a few surrounding islands including Great Britain; the Korean Peninsula; and South Sudan.
