The South is getting quite a share of the current American trickle of population growth but I suspect that'll change sometime in the next decade as hurricanes and extreme heat take their toll on the slowly-overpopulating hotspots. I live in San Antonio, the poorest city above 1M in population in the US, and it's currently the fastest-growing in the country.
