(My) JetPunk Questions

+7

Intro:

I (sort of) recently made an account to JetPunk and finally can make a blog after (just) reaching six months. But there are a lot of things about this site that I do not know of. These are some of my pressing questions, grouped into categories:

Questions About Quizmaking and Quiztaking

1) How do nominations work?

2) How do I make original, interesting quizzes? What works, what is interesting and what will contribute to the JetPunk community?

3) What is the SGV thing and how does it work?

4) Is it alright to nominate or highly rate your own quizzes? I hope not, but this is the type of things some people like to do. I've seen users with every single quiz nominated (once each, and only once).

Questions About the JetPunk Community

1) I've been on JetPunk for only a while, but I've seen that some people, like KiloNova and Luckycat seem to know each other well. Is there a way that I can be more active, in the JetPunk community, or be apart of it?

2) What are groups? What are they for, is there any interesting ones that I can potentially join?

3) Where is it fine to advertise quizzes (if it even is allowed at all???)? People do this all the time in scratch (and it is irritating).

4) I have a few JetPunk friends, but none of them seem to do my quizzes😥. Do/should friends frequently attempt each other's quizzes?

Miscellaneous Questions

1) Why are there so many accounts which don't have a quizmaker score? Like: Geopunk, HistoryPunk, LanguagePunk etc??? What does that mean?

2) Does QM actually dislike Belgium???

3) What things should I watch out for to avoid being banned??? (is this a sign of MKF's 'quizmasterbanningmeaphobia???)

4) Am I using too many question marks???

End

Thanks, and hopefully you have the answers to my questions. Happy quizzing! (And if you happen to attempt some of my quizzes, can you please leave a comment?)

1) Each user can nominate a quiz (even those they made themselves) if they like it and each week quizmaster picks one of the quizzes with the highest amount of nominations and features it. You have a limited amount of nominations (10 I think), but they get replenished each week.

2) There's no single method, but my advice would be to find a topic/niche you like and go from there.

3) SVG is a kind of file that is used in certain quizzes to showcase a map or some other visual. It's a fairly complex topic, so I suggest you go look at the SVG guide.

4) I guess so, if you like your own quiz.

-

1) Dunno

2) There's a interesting fact group, but I'm not aware of other "big" active groups.

3) Eh. I personally don't mind but others might have different opinions about this.

4) Some people have hundreds of friends so it's not always possible to do all of the new ones.

-

1) I think those are other accounts tied to QM or other mods.

2) Yes/No/Maybe/42

3) Follow the terms of service.

4) No?

I agree with most of this but I'll fill in some of the blanks.

1] 4) Don't nominate your own quizzes. Nominations are given by a user to another to indicate that a quiz deserves to be featured. Read more about them here. Ratings are given as a feedback to the quizmaker to indicate if changes need to be made or if a good job was done. Rating your own quizzes just skews that data in order to look better, hence why it shouldn't be done either.

2] 1) There really is no reason to look to be more active in the JetPunk community. Don't strive to be everywhere at the same time, comment where necessary / when you want to give feedback and don't flood the message board with posts.

2] 4) 'Friends' on JetPunk shouldn't be viewed as 'followers' or anything of the sort. Perhaps I am alone but I take friends' quizzes because I am interested in them, not because they are my 'friend'.

Have fun on the site and good luck!

I don’t see a problem in nominating your best quizzes

It feels wrong to me though...

Expanding on 2-3: It's OK to advertise your quizzes on the message board, and if you're old enough, the JetPunk Discord server. It's expected that you only advertise your best quizzes that you're really proud of, as opposed to just linking every quiz when you upload it. I'd also recommend advertising your quizzes off-site in the relevant communities since you won't be competing against a bunch of other quizmakers, though the same rule from earlier applies.

Expanding on your 'community' section:

1.) We know each other through comment sections like this. A decent chunk of the community that you see here connected through the Message Board, but several of us have been here on the Blog section for years. Another good way of connecting can be to participate in user-run contests, when they come up.

2.) The Interesting Facts Group is the second or third largest group on the site, you can join it here. We suggest facts, vote on the best, and then present them to Quizmaster. There aren't really other groups I'm aware of, though they are definitely out there.

3.) What Insaniot said above. If you've put plenty of effort in then advertising is okay! What not to do is just cold-comment links to your quizzes in other comment sections (I used to do this, but since realised it's impolite)

4.) I've got 110 friends, I don't really have the time to play everyone's quizzes. I do make an effort to scroll the list of friends' quizzes from time to time, and I'll play any that catch my eye.

Welcome to the blogging section, this is a well laid out blog. Normally I would say to put questions in the message board, but one this occasion I think you've done OK by making all of your queries into a blog.

I think that Lindwyrm above has answered your questions pretty well, I don't think there is anything I can add to his answers.

I'm looking forward to your first "proper" blog.

Not enough question marks!

"Dislike" is not a strong enough verb for the feelings Quizmaster, and quite frankly all right-thinking people, have about the licentious and degenerate cesspool called Belgium.

It's a revolting place and deserves to be derided at every possible opportunity -- the mere mention of its name will send me into a rage in the comments of every quiz in which it appears, complaining about the stupidity of its citizens, the irritating quality of their behavior, and the frequency with which I am reminded of its mere existence.

Since I see my name in a question I'll answer that one.

Kilo and I have known each other for maybe 2-3 years now. We don't know each other IRL, only through JetPunk. This friendship comes from years of being together on the site and supporting each other. I have made other friends, yes, but I wasn't always a popular name. With time, you'll be exposed to more and more elements of JetPunk, and your name will become more well known. Being active surely helps, but don't rot your brain here either. Keep making quizzes and blogs and you'll get recognized more and more. We have a nice juicy community here, and we're all one big family 😄
