A History of Foreign Hit Songs in the U.S.

Here is a line graph that shows the number of hit songs each Year-End U.S. Billboard Hot 100 from a few of the most notable non-American countries. If a song is made by 2 non-American acts from different countries, it is listed as one song for both countries. However, if both artists were from the same country, it counts for just one song. Features are not included. Some of the countries of origin for the acts are based on my discretion.

Drake songs make 42 appearances, most of any foreign artist. Justin Bieber has 21. The Weeknd has 20. Then Bryan Adams has 12, Nickelback has 11, and Celine Dion and Shawn Mendes both have 10. No other Canadian artist has more than 10.

Edit: These exact totals might be slightly inaccurate because I didn't account for songs where the artists are "The Weeknd and Drake" for example. Everything in the chart is fine though.

The leading Australian artist is Olivia Newton-John with 13. Then Air Supply with 8. Both Helen Reddy and Little River Band have 7.

Surprisingly, AC/DC never had a single song go in the Year-End Top 100 in the US, partially because Back in Black and Moneytalks, 2 of their 3 best charting songs, were released in December, shortly before the New Year. None of their songs really ever saw any high chart positions, although they stayed on the charts for some time.

I feel like AC/DC have actually gained popularity in the US since the 1980s and 90s.
