Oof, some really hard ones there, broke my streak on question 9, and got lucky with blind guesses on emu eggs and Sydneysiders, so I'll take the 9/10 gratefully today 😅
8/10. Not too difficult today. I wildly guessed that an emu egg would be red (idk why) perhaps I ought to have thought about it? And tbh I've never heard it referred to as 'the lucky country'. Learn something new every day
9/10, sadly got the egg colour wrong. But I am from New Zealand, which of course ISN’T Australia but close enough for me to know the other 9 answers without difficulty.
Oh, to any Aussies reading this: Happy Australia Day!
7/10. Never known why I would know where future Olympics will be. Never heard it called The Lucky Country, but to be fair neve rheard it called Southern Expanse either. I don't know who Andrew Garfield is, so I guessed Chris Hemsworth. Had no idea he was Australian, but I don't think I really k now who he is either.
Hemsworth is probably best known for playing Thor in the MCU, and Garfield is probably best known for being the second Spiderman (and I think he was in The Social Network too)
6/10, worst score in months. I thought I'd only miss the one about the Olympics, because it's sports, but it turns out I know nothing about Australia at all. Anyway, happy Australia Day/Indian Republic Day from the U.S.!
fumbled on the last one, my best score ever though because i answered all the other ones so quick and i've still not gotten a 10/10, final score was 8.925
The Lucky Country? Some nickname for a place colonized by prisoners, full of venomous creatures, and overrun by rabbits. I'm sure it's a lovely place, but 'lucky' doesn't strike me as apt. It seems I'm not alone.
It's Aussies that refer to it as the Lucky Country.
I think its too do with climate and the outdoors etc, but really it's because it's basically one big pile of stuff they can dig out of the ground and ship to China.
In 2020 mineral exports contributed 62% of Australia's total export revenue, valued at $270 billion. Australia is the world's largest exporter of coal (35% of international trade), iron ore, lead, diamonds, rutile, zinc and zirconium, second largest of gold and uranium, and third largest of aluminium.
Ouch, got my first two 10/10s on the last two quizzes but only 5/10 this time. Clearly I don’t know my Australia, never heard of ‘The Lucky Country’ at all.
Considering that I am an Australian I would have been disappointed if this wasn't my best result ever - 10/10 and my fastest time. Great Australia Day quiz!
9/10 - I should have done better but missed #5. As a New Zealander who has visited Australia multiple times and lived there for 5 years in the 1980s, I know a fair bit about Australia. Happy Australia Day!
That sounded better in my head.
To all our friends over the ditch: hope y'all enjoying your barbies and beaches today, have a fun time

I feel like the next theme is going to be about "white," though my clairvoyance may be misleading me.
