I think the last answer is wrong. Saloníki was a name of Thessaloniki in 15th century (in Italian it's still known as Salonicco), while Thessalia is an ancient region of Greece (Larissa)

Thessalia still exists and is a First Level Subdivision of Greece, better known as Thessaly in English.
