Find The Mystery Country Using Hints - Randomized!
To start, name any country. Use the colour clues in the map legend to find the mystery country. When you guess the mystery country, the quiz is over - you win!
To address a few questions repeatedly asked in the comments:
- A landmass is any contiguous piece of land, such as Afro-Eurasia, Borneo, Hispaniola, etc.
- Names as in the Countries of the World quiz are used, so the last letter of the USA is S (United States)
- French Guiana is an overseas department or France, not an overseas territory. Therefore France is on both the landmass of the Americas as well as Afro-Eurasia, while it's continent is still Europe
Originally there was a little bit more explanation but that seems to have been removed once this was featured. The quiz works as follows:
- Type any country. The country will show up in one of 12 colours. Say we type China.
- Use the legend on the bottom left of the svg to see what the colour means. For example, China shows up in yellow, meaning the mystery country is on the landmass of Afro-Eurasia, but not in Asia, doesn't start with C, and doesn't end with A.
- Using that info, we type the next country. Let's say we pick the DR Congo, which shows up in black. This means the mystery country is in Africa, doesn't end with O, but starts with D
- We then pick Djibouti, with which the quiz ends as it was the mystery country :)
i think I'm going crazy, can you please explain this scenario, i guessed china, got me FL and LL, then i guessed sweden, got me the continent, turns out the country was north macedonia, perhaps you used a different name for china, or another name for north macedonia?
Hmm China should have been cyan for Last Letter and Landmass then (LL & LA), and it's using China and North Macedonia indeed. I'll check to see if my algorithm did something weird there, thanks for letting me know!
Edit: the code is assigning LL & LA to China for that one, not sure what happened. Sorry for the inconvenience!
Also I get Suriname quite often, like 1 in 3 rounds, so I feel like there might be something wrong with how the country is randomized. Might be something to look into
There's only 51 options due to the way the quiz is set up, so countries will reappear sooner than expected. Other than that the randomizer is something I cannot influence :)
I absolutely love this quiz, but the scoring doesn't really make sense at the moment. A win automatically awards you 196/196 or 100% and 5 points, and then you can't improve anymore. It would probably make more sense to base scoring on time or something.
Did it again. First guess, USA. Second guess, Brazil. Third guess, Venezuela. Fourth guess, Columbia. Fifth guess, Guyana. Sixth guess, Bolivia. Seventh guess, Argentina. Win!
This is a fun game but when I lose I often cannot see the correct answer. Some countries are so small, and some colors are close in shade. Can it be improved by a simple text at the end "the correct answer is --____"
Took me a while to work that out too - I thought the last letter of the USA would be the 'a' at the end of 'America' not the 's' at the end of 'States'?
can anybody really explain how to do this one, i'm not getting it at all, like what do those colors and codes mean? i just did it again and had kazakhstan in purple, canada in white, egypt in yellow, i just gave up and saw tajikistan in bright green, what am i supposed to do here?
so I figured out that Bosnia and Bulgaria are the best countries as these two complete all possible type of criteria. for there is a country for each criteria if the mystery country is either of these two countries
Absolutely love this one. Figured it out right away--instructions are spot on. I like the short timer feature--I get the answer about 50% of the time, so I it makes you think FAST.
I never realized just how many African countries ended with the letter A until I guessed like 10 of them and there were still a bunch I didn't get before time ran out (which sadly included the answer). Fun quiz!
Last letter came up as A, so I started to go through each continent with countries ending in A to narrow it down further. But when I typed in USA (as in United States of AmericA) it said there were zero connections. Am I missing something in the name of the USA here?
Honduras as mystery country was a bit confusing. It said that the USA share the last letter with Honduras and that is very misleading. You labled it as "United States" but it is either USA or United States of America, as far as I can say. Was that on purpose or a mistake?
As stated in the pinned comment, I use the country names as in the Countries of the World quiz, where the USA is written as the United States. So it is on purpose
Turkey was only in the same landmass, China had the same last letter and landmass. It was in the same continent as Uk. Yet Russia is on a different landmass to China???
Apologies if someone else has made a similar comment and I've not seen it, but this is an example of a quiz where you can get penalised (as I did) for typing Dominica, when you're actually going for Dominican Republic. On a subsequent attempt though, I discovered that DRepublic works for Dominican Republic - so that can be used for a workaround. I anticipate though that the issue remains in the cases of Uk/Ukraine and Niger/Nigeria.
This is a fun game but it would be awesome if there was a longer time. maybe you can make a duplicate like this and add a 5 minute timer or a 3 minute timer?
Hmm... my mystery country turned out to be (Northern) Macedonia, however Austria, Albania and Andorra all gave the color for for letter last letter and continent.
So unless I am missing something very obvious, this one has an error.
ahem... my bad... the ll&co and fl, ll&co colours are very similar.. (just saw angola, the country I started with was ll& la, so the country would NOT have started with an a..)

Simonized 😎
Serbia, Bosnia, Slovenia, Bulgaria and Slovakia have at least one country that shares each possible colors
France is the best possible country to start with/get, while Vanuatu is the worst.
Second guess: Mexico = win!
second guess: Russia
win
lol
(and I did it in 5 seconds because whenever I get none on Canada I guess Tuvalu xD)
I will stop for a bit so I dont break the streak lol
Very fun
Sao tome -> Saint kitts and nevis -> Philippines
Will never get this again
ll-last letter
co-continent
la-landmass
is that all?
only PNG comes in oceania
high repetition
